EVALUATION
My Reflective Statement:
I really enjoyed this project as I thought the poetic science brief was really interesting and sparked many ideas for me. I initially wanted to create a guide or kit for growing the perfect plant, however I feel that maybe my research areas for this were maybe too broad, so I didn’t really focus on one thing until the near end of the project, however I do feel I may not have gotten to the point I did without all of the research I did throughout the project. I think it was a very good learning experience though and has allowed me to better my skills and learn new skills to take into third year. I explored different areas of how plants react to certain stimuli, agricultural astrology and mythology to lead me to my final outcome.
For my final piece I created my very own Demeter’s and Persephone’s agricultural astrology chart using acrylic and posca on a large canvas.
My strengths in this project were trying different multimedia and developing ideas.
In this project I tried to use my ipad as a form of sketchbook so that I could practise my digital skills more, and I feel I really benefited from switching between a conventional sketchbook and my digital ipad. My biggest weakness during this project was that I wished I focused on one particular skill such as lino printing throughout my practise for this module as I feel I would have really benefited from this and my work would fit the brief better. However, I am happy that I got to work on a canvas as it’s not a medium I usually work with, and I enjoyed the challenge of working with a bigger medium other than A4 or smaller.
I found the workshops we had arranged for this module very helpful. I have always wanted to have a go at the laser cutting process, and I found the workshop useful even with the difficulty of it being online. I now know how to prepare a file for the laser machine and look forward to using this facility more next year. The stamp workshop was also very helpful, as I had never thought of using something as simple as rubber in a print method before, so will be using this method in my practise a lot more.
